This year Diomedes and myself are co-leading arrow check. In lieu of teaching an arrow/bow checking class, we are offering on the job training every morning at arrow check. Every person who ever hopes to touch a bow is invited to attend. For people who currently wield a bow I suggest attendance strongly enough to be just short of a command...and possibly stronger. Archery is a lot of fun, but it's also the most dangerous aspect of our sport. Every archer needs to know what a passing or failing arrow feels like. Lacking knowledge in this area makes you less credible, and makes more work for the checkers. So remedy that lack of knowledge, free of charge, courtesy of your friendly neighborhood arrow checkers.

There you have it, invitation extended, see you there.

I plan to help with arrow check as much as possible this year. Last year Dio and Lady Grey ran me through the arrow checking process but a brush up and a reminder never hurt. See you there.

Just have to say--so excited for this. Can we do two shorter sessions, so we can attend, fight with what we learned, and come back to the second session with questions? Would that be too much?

I dunno if I am actually bringing my arrows this year but I can help again this year, and I can vouch that they are very good teachers :)

So this is what I've come up with as far as classes:

Monday: Intro to basic shots and combos
Equipment: single sword
Objective: To introduce a systematic approach to basic shots and how to use that system for developing combinations.

Tuesday: Intro to footwork
Equipment: single sword
Objective: To introduce the basics of footwork, using footwork for power generation, and drills for developing footwork.

Wednesday: Intro to combat archery
Equipment: bow and at least three arrows
Objective: To introduce the basics of combat archery such as suggested equipment, training techniques, and tips for the melee.

Thursday: Basic tactics
Equipment: fighting gear
Objective: To introduce the theory behind tactics, some of the most common tactics, and different drills to develop your melee skills.

Friday: Intermediate tactics
Objective: Building on the concepts introduced in the basic tactics class, this class will focus on the skills and techniques for leading on the battlefield.
Prerequisite: basic tactics class

One of the things I'm struggling with is the best time to hold the classes. I originally thought that lunchtime would be good but that is also when weapons check is taking place. Another idea I had was during the regular fighting between banner battles and the lunch breaks. Any suggestions?

I think hosting a class in the morning is a great idea; it won't be as hot(I hope) as later in the day, and won't be a problem in that it doesn't conflict with other obligations or such.

Wouldn't Monday morning be tight considering it is the first day people can show up? You just may not have a great showing for that class that's all.

One or two days of Chaos I plan on having a class on what I like to call Aggressive Combat Archery. It's a work in progress, but should be informative either way.

The fundraising class sounds like something I need to attend. Realm funds have dwindled and it is sad.

I've decided to swap out the footwork class for offensive shield work. If anyone would be interested in discussing some of the things I've researched about footwork, we can talk at the event.

The class description for Tuesday is now:

Tuesday: Intro to offensive shield work
Equipment: weapon and shield
Objective: To introduce the basics of utilizing your shield as a weapon.

While I don't doubt that you are legit in wanting to learn....I would say no to this one for a few reasons.

1) I don't know any of the male moves
2) it would make some of the more self conscious girls even more so
3) male belly dancers look retarded imo *edit* unless it's Todo and he is drunk

If the powers that be wanna insist that all classes are open to all people, that's a different story...but until then, I gotta say no on that.
