Minors with a notarized waiver WILL be allowed onsite. Their Chaperones will be responsible for their actions. Each chaperone can only be responsible for ONE minor, because if that minor gets into trouble then the minor and chaperone will be removed from Chaos. I am sorry for the confusion, I have been stressed and gave some incorrect information at our meeting last night.

The minimum age for participating in fighting (on or off the field; with or without heralds) is 16.
Any minor that is caught disobeying rules will be summarily removed from the site, this also means that the parent/guardian will have to leave. Parents - If you don't do your job watching your kids, there is a possibility you will have to leave Chaos for what the minors have done.

ALL minors will require a notarized waiver for entry to Chaos Wars XVI. Ages 0-17. Most banks have free notarys on staff, but you might want to call ahead and ask.

Site Rules

This site is private property and we are very lucky to have it. Be respectful of the site.

Don’t damage the property.
Pick up trash. We are charged a dollar for every piece of trash they find after we leave.
The horses and the house are off limits.
Drive only 5 mph on the dirt road ways. I know it’s hard, but this is really important as complaints about our driving and dust can effect us using this site in the future.
No Dogs.
No Trailers.
No means No.
Respect your fellow attendees.

Hailey Etiquette

We are very lucky that the town of Haley not only puts up with us, but embraces us being there. Last year they even had cupcakes and signs welcoming Chaos Wars back!
This relationship is important so please do the following when you are out and about in town:

Remember, you are representing Belegarth and Chaos Wars as a community; your actions reflect on us all because you are easily recognizable in garb.
Be Polite.
Don’t cuss.
Answer questions about Belegarth when asked because it helps with perceptions and game growth.

“Safe” People:

This year we have designated men and women who have volunteered in case something happens where a participant is made uncomfortable, needs advice, protection, etc. These people promise to be discreet to the best of their ability while still maintaining the rules of the event.
Safe Persons: Images of the following people can be found in the Who’s Who section.

Parking

This year you will have an assigned parking space. Spaces are given out on a first come first serve basis. Each space is numbered. The number of your space, and your camp site number, will be written on the back of your car window.

Camp Sites:

Due to time constraints and some tech not coming through we are just going to have camping coordinators at Troll this year. Instead of registering for a camp site like we originally wanted to, we are just going to help direct people off of areas (such as the walking/driving path) and into what we consider better camping sites. I am sorry for the confusion, this has been our biggest struggle to get working. Camping will be on a first come first serve basis. I am sorry for the confusion.

Security

City Guard:

The City Guard is made up of amazing volunteers who dedicate time from thier nights to keep us safe and responsible. All guards travel in groups of 2 and must be sober during their shift. Guards wear reflector ribbon sashes and have at least one cell phone per group. The guards report to whomever is head of security that night, Kannon or Cheeseheart. Security heads report to Plithut or Cryn.
During the evening, guards travel around camp to: check wrist bands for underage drinking and non-registered persons, guard against un-safe situations and ensure general safety.

Wrist Bands

“Red means stop. Green means go.”
Minors: red wrist bands
21 and over: green wrist bands.

Final Feast
The Final Feast is Saturday at 6:00. Lets Celebrate another awesome Chaos! Awards and the Banner are also given.

Realm, Unit and General Fighting

General fighting takes place all week and is denoted in green on the schedule.

Apocalypse Points
All week during General Fighting (including Scenario battles) Apocalypse Points will be awarded for winning certain battles and games. The winning group gets to put a point toward a side of their choice, good or evil. The points will be tallied daily and that days winning side be announced. The side that has the most daily wins will gain an advantage in Final Battle. See Monsteracolypse, Crusadergeddon for more details.

Scenario Battles
A single Jugging field will be set up next to the general fighting field all week to give fighters the opportunity to practice with their teams. Scenarios will be run all week, teams will be competing under either the good or evil banner. The side that is winning at the beginning of the “Final Battle” will gain field advantage for the final scenarios.

Unit and Realm Battles
Each year Chaos Wars has battle dedicated to both Units and Realms. Thanks to Elwrath and Cedric we have cloaks for the winners of each of these battles. Much like banner battles, the team with the overall highest score at the end of the week in their respective categories (realm or unit) will be awarded with the corresponding cloak.

Monsteracolypse, Crusadergeddon
As you probably know, this years Chaos Wars is themed: Monsteracolypse, Crusadergeddon.
The theme is present in 2 ways: Fighting (throughout the week for Points and in the Final Battle) and Final Battle Awards.

Fighting
Throughout the Week
All week during General Fighting (including Scenario battles) Apocalypse Points will be awarded for winning certain battles and games. This is an opportunity to gain an advantage for the team of your choice in the Final Battle.

For winning scenarios or fighting exceptionally, heralds can award groups and individual fighters with a point toward a side of their choice, good or evil. The points will be tallied daily and that day’s winning side will be announced. The side that wins the most days will gain an advantage in Final Battle.

We will have a large board with the score near troll so everyone can keep track.*

The Final Battle

“Monsterpocalypse/Crusadergeddon” is on Saturday at 3:00. It will be a combination of different types of battles. This is the event where the garb/kit-based Final Battle Awards will be determined.

Final Battle Awards
Like last years Monster Day, awards will be given this year for the participation in this years theme.
The Awards are:
Best Goodie Kit (Male)

I would love to do weapons checking (projectiles are not my specialty) every day that I am there, which will likely be Monday through Saturday. I don't expect to be a "second" or anything for this task, but I'll be there bright and early each day. I'd like to volunteer for at least a few City Guard shifts (late evenings, any night other than Saturday and whenever we have Gladiator Pits). I worked for a year at my school's parking department, though I don't know if that will give me the proper experience to be in charge of parking....PM me what it would entail and I'll let y'all know if I'm up to the task.

Also, is there any information available for those who might want to go early and help prepare the site?

Plithut, I'd be willing to be Head of arrow check. Dio, Xooyan, Lady Grey, and Daraith have been doing a long time, and could probably use a break.

For cereal, the Monsterpocalypse and Crusadergeddon concept is the best I've ever heard for an event. It even trumps the HoRde run event a few years ago (Chaos, maybe Geddon' I can't remember). I must be there.

This all sounds very great. I would like to volunteer for some City Guard stuff, and troll at some point too, I will have to look at the schedule to see when exactly, but would like to avoid doing it when there is a big important fight going on. I will also be volunteering my back for weapon checking, but that is more a show up and do it thing. I love the organization that is going on, and cannot wait for this Chaos. Oh, by the way: :knight: <==== Good guys always win. And I will be helping prove just that. ;)

You're the man Plithut. I know a bunch of our guys are wanting to run an actual walkie talkie holding security. Even if we don't need it all week.. it is/was (last year at least) needed on occasion. I know Fork has a few talkies and so do I. If it's just Germania and Uruk-hai i can only imagine what the talkies will sound like as nights progress. If we could just get a few others on board things like things getting stolen and jack asses sneaking on site can be squashed in minutes rather than hours/days.

I like this idea, I helped with security at Rag a couple of times and while the majority of the time is spent having fun, the talkies definitely help when needed

but that would be fun in itself.
The only issue is that if they are a shared resource that all will use I could see some overhead in a check in/check out list so someone could be accountable if they are lost. Those things are not cheap, and I know we had a few years back that have up and walked or they walkied-talkied away.

I don't like the idea of one or two units managing security exclusively. I'm afraid it would open the door for abuse of power and favoritism. With every camp this year having someone to go to, do we need to bolster security? I would rather have more people spending energy on picking up cigarette butts than feeling important with a walkie talkie.

EDIT: What all got stolen, and how frequently were event crashers a problem? And how would more security with faster communication help to resolve these problems?

At CW 14 I was doing ID checking for the pub and had an obviously underage townie trying to sneak in. I told him to wait there while I tried to get a guard to escort him out and he bailed. Luckily, he sent a friend back in with plaid pajama pants and the same plastic Subway cup to try and get in about 15 minutes later and I had a guard nearby to grab him. All in all I had about 4-5 people thrown out of the event that night, all from the same group. Had I a walkie it would have expedited the process rather than having to wait for them to reappear and point them out to the guards over the course of the night. And that was just pub night. We had multiple problems with people crashing that year, I believe. As for theft, talk to Midget Mishy. She had a boatload of stuff walk away within the first hours of her showing up to her first Chaos (15). Theft is really becoming a problem.

Thanks for the response. So walkie talkie's would foreseeably be a good thing. Would a stronger security presence reduce theft? If some people are set on jacking stuff at events (and clearly some people are), they're going to find a way to do it, no matter what.

In a perfect world, we would all be responsible for one another's safety and well-being and security wouldn't be needed. The reality may be that as Chaos Wars grows, more creeps and jackasses necessitates more babysitters. I want to fight that as much as possible, though.

We wont be doing walkie talkies, we've tried it before, we are still waiting to get those walkie talkies back. What we will be doing is relying on cell phones, there will be a cell phone list and city guard will have their phones. This way people can stay in communication, and dont have an excuse for loosing their cell phones. We will have a cell phone recharge station so no one looses their phone charge.

As to the theft, we have had problems before, but honestly its probably someone inside your camp. Its outrageous that I am finding out about theft now, why didn't anyone come and make it apparent DURING Chaos? If you guys had a problem, come and find the event coordinators, don't wait till you get home to complain. I have no sympathy for people who wait to bring it up.

It's kind of shocking that you would be shocked when the topic of discussion is being remissed due to the theft of walkie talkies. The only thing i see wrong with cell phones is personally i would never.. ever.. even carry my phone out of the car at any event. I guess that's more of a reflection on my own actions during said event though.

I don't see the harm in personal talkie use on the other hand. Wether it be sanctioned or not. If we can listen to dubstep all day.. we can use talkies. We should get together this weekend and talk about it.. or just beat eachother with sticks. Haven't seen you guys in a month.

I was worried about theft as we had Nysa's work laptop with us, but luckily someone was willing to let us stash it in their car.

Have you ever done security for anything before?

Before too many people begin jumping on a security bandwagon be reminded that the event is a long way off and in the approaching months clearly defined volunteer positions will be created and offered to the entire event attendance.
Asking for an entire unit/realm to accept a gigantic responsibility like providing security for an week-long event of hundreds is unfair to both that group and other potential volunteers.

To anyone wanting to be 'the event security team': You are asking to be hated and you will likely leave Chaos feeling very dissatisfied with your event experience. This really is not a position anyone wants to be in. It is service. It sucks. It is not a place of power in anyway and if you have an ax to grind with someone then flexing your security muscle on them at Chaos Wars is the wrong way to go about it. It will get you nowhere.

The security positions proposed for the event will be selective and those with prior event service and notable credibility in the community will be chosen over those who are not so familiar.
Does this mean you cannot help out? Of course not!
Please volunteer but be willing to do what is asked of you whether it is the position that you asked for or not.
Those whose job it is to pick up trash are way more loved than those whose job it is to kick people out of the event

To anyone eager to demonstrate event service skills consider:
Hosting a small event and learning what is challenging for you and what comes naturally. (How well do you manage your resources and what are you good at)
Volunteering for small duties at events big and small and see how given duties like weapons check, troll, and trash management become challenging in the moment.
Collaborating with your group, get permission, and host an activity for an event. See how well your group cooperates when you are doing a service for a mass of people.
If being responsible for a duty is beyond you, don't worry, just go and enjoy your event.

It hurts the event when the volunteers are overworked and stressed out.

To answer your question ( as the rest of your post doesn't really feel like diatribe material ) yes i've run security at rag with the rest of the Forgotten ones, all week except for one night. Not really because i wanted to but because they are some of my best friends and that's who i ended up hanging out with.

And i've run countless events in one of the biggest fighting states in our country as a sergeant at arms for the realm. Both organization and running the days. So i guess now that that's out of the way could i be spoken to in another way other than what seems like a lecture?

I'm sorry if you misunderstood what i was trying to say about camps. What is done at rag is walkies are spread throughout groups across the camp ground. Whoever is head of security always has a walkie. When something happens way over there.. It's easy for a few other heads to get over there because.. well that's obvious. That simple.. never meant to make it seem like any camp/camps should be entirely responsible for anything. Was simply trying to say that we could if that was the case. I knew every single walk around that volunteered for the night watches and honestly every one of them could have been trusted with walkies.

For the record i'm fine with whatever happens.. I was just trying to throw out an idea that a few of us had talked about at chaos this year. Sorry for any mind melting trivialities.

Warning! This gets a bit preachy, then it gets off track, followed by my personal thoughts in regards to event running and Chaos Wars. Please feel free to poke holes and ask questions, this is very train-of-thought.

Hammaren, I love the enthusiasm and I love the qualifications. I will probably chat with you more about running larger event security, just to bounce ideas. We have as of yet to come to a decision in regards to the walkie talkies, Ill entertain the idea, but we are also going to take into consideration our past experience. I would love for you to help out and be involved in Security, I will probably talk with you more about this as the event date gets closer.

Lets get one thing clear right now; we neither have a site or a date set for next Chaos. We are STILL currently working through contacting likely places. My biggest concern is not security right now, but since others seem to be stressing it, Ill address it.

In the past Dopp has purchased and loaned out walkie talkies for security at events, in his experience they either come back broken or not at all. One of the biggest pushes for Cell Phone usage was that it is your own personal property, and thus you are less likely to either break or loose it. Cryn and I's current pick for City Guard/Security is Kanon and Elerosse, we will probably be assigning captains and what not underneath them within the next few months.

Something I want to stress is what Shino said;
Shino wrote:You are asking to be hated and you will likely leave Chaos feeling very dissatisfied with your event experience. This really is not a position anyone wants to be in. It is service. It sucks. It is not a place of power in anyway and if you have an ax to grind with someone then flexing your security muscle on them at Chaos Wars is the wrong way to go about it. It will get you nowhere.

I cant tell you how many years event coordinators both go into and leave Chaos dissatisfied with the experience. It is a stressful job, we are playing parent to 300+ Wild Kids, it is not easy or satisfying to manage it. It is not easy to look my friends in the eye, especially when they are sometimes older than me, and tell them to grow up. A VAST majority of running security or an event is being shocked at how uncommon 'common sense' is among our brethren. In many different ways I envy the event goers who can just go, drink, socialize and fight, you are enjoying the event like I used to, being irresponsible.

That being said, it is getting harder and harder each year for coordinators to shoulder the responsibilities, because they have been doing it for so long. I was very pleased to see new faces in positions of power last year, I would like to continue the trend. We hope to co-mingle the old coordinators with those who would like to become the new, not to pass on responsibility, but to spread it out amongst others. So, whether or not you are new to this, please help out, because when we split responsibility, everyone can enjoy their event.

Now, I love Chaos Wars, it is the first event I ever attended and it is certainly the BEST event I have ever attended. This event is what inspired my generation of fighters to continue today. All I want to do, is give back the inspiration that it has given me, pass it on to others, make the event better than it was the year before, and continue to inspire people to strive to create the best event EVER, each and every year Chaos happens. Chaos Wars has only gotten better in my experience, lets keep it that way.

No holes to be poked there i completely agree with everything you've stated. And know that i'm not trying to poke holes in anything or derail anything you are trying to do. You know i love ya dearly and appriciate everything you are doing for the one event that my clan can all get to. I am only trying to help and like you said.. make things better. Next weekend saturday i think i'll start up the winter fighting and hopefully we can talk face to face there. I had some other questions that i know you wouldn't want to answer here. I'll call ya early next week brotha.

While I am glad that we have remained in Jeff and Melanie's good graces enough to be welcomed back for another year....I have some concerns as well.

The theme is epic, I am so stoked for that and am already working on garb ideas. The place has been really great to us in the past but I wish we had some where that we could all kinda camp together instead of being broken up in to little cliques. Will we be able to drum around fires this year? Will we be able to cheer for people or boo people as needed at the bardic events? Or will we have to keep our noise level to a minimum for the neighbors?

Also, are we having the rave again?
Please say no.
A medieval foam sword fighting event is not the place for a rave...lol

Have you ever BEEN to a rave? A couple hours of dance music is pretty **** far from a rave.
I loved the dub at the pub, personally.
I also love having the camp devided by the woods. We're in the SHADE for god's sake. And it makes the camps seem kinda like a small village.
Hooray for having dates. Thanks Curly.

I can have a good time just without the music. I'm sure if I wanted to play four hours of straight grind and power violence people would complain real fast. I don't foresee Blastbeat Burlesque taking off anytime soon.

Why do you feel the need to shove your opinion down our throats about an event you've never been to?

It's not like the entire event was based around electronic music. It was one night. Filled with free booze for the entire event. Most people had a good time. Get over it.

Whoah dude chill. All I said is I don't like modern music at events. Most every event I've been to in the last year have had loud modern music. Did that ruin the event, no. Sounds like you took it a bit too personal. You wanna talk about it?

With all due respect, I felt that the Dub music took away from the atmosphere of the pub. The pub was originally designed to bring us all together in drunken stoopidness because, "you can't be mad at your friends". It worked wonders, and by the end of the night we had EBF guys wearing Uruk helms and vice versa. Everyone came together for a great social time, where we gave honors to those who came, who came before, and who would come after us. I've seen to little of this at the pub the last couple of years, and if something were to be brought back to the Pub, this is what I would like to see brought back.

I personally feel that the louder the music is, no matter what kind of music is playing, the less social the Pub will be. To be honest, I tuned out the music after about an hour. I would have liked the dubstep music better, if it had been more medieval themed, but that's neither here nor there.

If there is going to be Dubstep music again, I would prefer to see it not be at the Pub, and be done elsewhere or possibly on a different night even, so as not to split the crowd between to major night events. Keep in mind this is just my personal opinion, and I am not trying to step on toes or be a douchebag.
