I am in the market for new fighting gloves (for medieval combat sports) and am hoping to solicit feedback. Right now it looks like there are two broad classes of gloves - lacrosse gloves and MMA gloves.
Lacrosse gloves:
+ Designed for holding sticks
+ Well padded and armored
- Too well padded/armored, and extend past the wrist. Possible conflict with bracers.
- Have to be mail-ordered, no opportunity to fit test.

MMA gloves:
+ Good knuckle padding
+ Largely compatible with bracers
+ Relatively easy to come by/locally available
- Tend to have annoying palms (no padding, 'bar' in the padding, bad padding)
- Some models have bad metacarpal padding.

Anyone have any opinions/anecdotes/insight on the matter? Pairs of lacrosse gloves I can try on? A better way (such as taping foam to cheap gloves, as Chicken does)? I am all ears. Thanks in advance. Alternatively, if you can make demi-gauntlets/gloves with good dexterity and protection that would fit better with a 1290-1320 French character for roughly the same price shoot me a line. Thanks!
