Market Research: Masks and Prosthetics

Postby Embara Cayosin » Wed Sep 15, 2010 12:43 am

Hello all. I am here to inquire about how people in this sport feel about latex/silicone masks and Prosthetics. Masks would include full head or half head (face) creations that could range from beefy orc to scaly lizard man. Prosthetics could range from pointed ears to scars/marred flesh.
I'm asking this before I go through the trouble of making the molds and product. Also if anyone would be interested please tell me what you would like. I can't start production until November. So yea give me your input so I can have some accurate market research to know how to start off.

If I was to wear one:

I would only ever consider putting it on off of the field. On the field, it would be the nastiest kind of sweaty * to wear around. I sweat like a champ and closing/covering any of the pores on my face and keeping me from feeling that sweet, sweet breeze just feels like a horrible idea.

There are few people who still wear ears on the field...most prosthetic ears, colored contacts, etc. are saved for off the field. Latex masks would make breathing on the field extraordinarily difficult. Some monsters dye their skin, and make leather armor masks to help with their personification; in truth, most of us are really just there to fight.

Yeah, and the reason why we dye our skin is because it's generally the easiest way to get a monster-ish effect without all the masks/prosthetics. So sorry, but you aren't going to get much business here. Belegarth just doesn't emphasize roleplay as heavily as some other games might.

i have worked for haunted attractions for going on 7 years now. Just to let you know you might need a stronger adhesive for the Prosthetics then spirit gum to survive a day of sweating and battle (it might last you a day depending on how hot it is, the hotter it is the stronger of an adhesive you will need) . Also if you are not carefull you can actually get rashes from a day of heavy sweating so remember to wash your face well after use. Also, wash the side of the Prosthetic that you glued to your face so you can use it pretty much forever with proper care. Just trying to give u some helpfull hints to try and help ya. If you have any questions regarding face glues and prosthetics i would be more than happy to anwser them for you.

i use prosaide as the adhesive and am well aware of the limitations of it and spirit gum.
