Know Any Foam Smiths???

Postby Claus » Mon Jun 25, 2012 10:15 pm

I'm looking to buy gear to get started. I've built PVC weapons before but I'm not familiar with the Belegarth Specs.

So, with my lack of time and with my availability of $$$MONEY$$$ I'd love to buy weapons!

Does anyone know good links to foam smiths in the IL area or that could do shipping?

PM Barley, or look into buying from Forged Foam.

Also, I strongly recommend talking to the vets in your local realm in regards to weapon selection before committing to a purchase. Sure, that 6' great sword looks appealing, but starting out with a 32" sword and a 28" round shield will give you a much more reliable foundation until you're ready to branch out to other styles.

But hey, it's your money. Spend it how you will.

And welcome to the game. May your adventures be fruitful.

Thanks! I've talked with those at Thorum and they've suggested something similar. When they tested me out they noticed I still retained a strong guard with two handed weapons and yet I leave my forearms open.

So, they suggested starting with sword and board to start with too. I'm looking forward to this. I've got hardened leather plate armor and I was anxious for practice today, but it was cancelled or something. No one showed up.

Tricks on the new guy.

Where in IL is Thorum? If it is any where near Champaign there is a Forged Foam dealer there so you can handle the merchandise before buying. Forged Foam is great if you don't have the time or inclination to build your own.

A lot of places have house rules against the wearing of armor by newer fighters, and for good reason: Our game requires that hits be accepted only when they land with sufficient force and the line across which "sufficient" becomes "insufficient" and vice versa is a subtle one and adjudication of such is often impaired by good armor. Best, the wisdom goes, to develop good and correct calibration first, then add armor.

Good luck!
