While some of these can seem inordinately expensive, think of them a long-term investment with a high initial cost. Yes, paying $300 for a pair of shoes up front is a lot but if you break it down in terms of how long they will last, it's not as bad. For example, if the $300 pair of shoes lasts you 5 fighting seasons, that ends up being $60 a year and $5 a month. If you're able to get them to last at least 10 fighting seasons (not unrealistic if you care for them), that ends up being $30 a year and only $2.50 a month.
I have a pair of medieval-ish boots that I paid $210 for but they've lasted at least eight fighting seasons now. That breaks down to $26.25 a year and about $2.19 a month.
