In my limited research into B.

I find plywood being the acceptable shield core.
What else can be used.

In my other LARP we use snow discs with similar padding requirements.

you can use wood, plastic, or metal. Back in the day people used to use cardboard as a core for ultralight sheilds. Pretty much anything is fine, as long as it is properly padded.
