Newby Armor Question...

Postby Alabraxis » Sat Mar 26, 2005 1:53 pm

I understand the need for realism and all, but I'll go ahead and ask it anyway.

Why can't I use PVC to make mock up platemail? The weapons are foam wrapped so its not like it won't provide adaquate protection should i be hit.
It would be lighter then real platemail, so i can understand saying no on that count, but our weapons aren't exactly accurate weights either.
It should be cheaper then the real thing too, so it would allow for mor diverse armor selection on the battlefield.

Has anyone tried it? I may just try it to say I have regardless of my ability to use it at events.

Because our game is basically a sport. Wearing armor gives you an extra hit in a location (which is a huge advantage). We decided for play balance/sport purposes to make armor heavy. The way we did this is to force people to use historically accurate materials. No aluminum, plastic, carbon fiber, etc. It is a disadvantage to offset the large advantage given by armor.

As far as your point about foam weapons, it looks as if we are about to pass weapon weight minimums.
