Arrow Blocking

Postby Makieus » Tue Apr 05, 2005 7:15 pm

I know that if a fighter intentionally blocks an arrow with a weapon, that the fighter is considered dead, but what about intentionally blocking an arrow with an unarmed hand? Would the arm be considered poked, or the fighter dead.

As a herald, I have been calling it a poked limb, but I am interested in feedback from others concernining this.

It's the limb. Hand on weapon is part of the weapon; hand off weapon is part of the arm.

Since intentionally blocking with the hand is illegal, the MINIMUM damage is the loss of the arm. However, given that in reality you can't block a speeding arrow with your hand (unless you are Bruce Lee), then the Herald should consider where the arrow would have struck if the hand hadn't illegally blocked it. Thus is the flight path would have hit the torso, neck or head, then the person should be called dead.

At least that is my interpretation when I Herald - your mileage may vary.

Block with an unarmored hand can be potenially bad. Allowing people to do this will cause people to start swatting at arrows which is something we don't people to do. I would yell at whoever intentionally blocked an arrow with his hand.

Swinging ANYTHING at an incoming arrow is a very bad idea.

I would call the offender dead and give them a talking to after the fight.

*shrug*

If a herald wants to call them dead on general safety principles, it's all good. :) I was just going with BoW itself.
