Legal sized buckler?

Postby bowen » Thu Jul 14, 2005 1:23 pm

12" w x 12" h
..........[.......] 4"
........[...........] 6"
...,-[.................] 8"
...[.....................] 10"
..[.......................] 12"
..[.......................]
..[.......................]
...[.....................]
....[....................]
.....[.................]
.......[.............]
..........[.........]

Would the above sized buckler be legal? it is 12" high & 12" wide, but not at every point.

Or would I need to make it completely square 12" x 12"?
Or completly round with diameter of 12"?

Not sure from the drawing Bowen.

Think of it this way - if you can draw a 12 inch diameter (across) circle on the face of your shield, then you are okay. If you cannot, then it fails.

Or to look at it another way, if you had a 12 inch diameter circular shield AND then added chunks of foam onto it - it still passes.

Or another take - if you havea 12 inch wide shield that is four feet tall - it will still pass.

I hope this helps. I'm trying to give you (and other people looking at this thread) some of the ideas to think about when measuring your shield dimensions.

Completly round with diameter of 12" is the correct answer. Your non-round shield that is 12" on two axis does not pass.

Think of it this way. Get a 12" round dinner plate (or circle of something) and place it on the ground. Lay the shield down on top of it. If you can see any portion of the plate from above the shield fails. The shield must completely cover the 12" circle to pass, extra additions onto the shield (added foam like Kyrax said) would be fine as long as this base of 12" existed.
