Turtling?

Postby Digoza » Mon Sep 26, 2005 9:05 pm

Alright, so, I've heard of/seen people doing something referred to as "turtling" when wielding a red weapon. This is generally composed of the person wearing a shield on their back. My question is, does the shield still actually function on their back, or does it count like it's not there and any hits continue on through to the body?

A shield is a shield no matter how it's held.

Like Obryn said, the shield counts whether it is a buckler strapped to an arm, a full-sized shield strapped to your back or shoulder or whatever. The only catch is that a person may only have one shield, worn or strapped.

The same rules apply - if the shield is hit by two solid Class II (red) weapon blows, it is broken. The third blow to the shield, if it isn't dropped after the second, would go through the shield and take out the arm holding it, or in the case of a back-strapped shield would killl the wearer.

Oh, and I've usually heard of 'turtling' used to refer to a user who curls up behind their shield when legged or knocked to the ground.
