Fin's on a javalin

Hey now, i saw pic the other day, this guy had a fin on his javalin, three to be persise. What's the deal with that? Is it legal, because if so why don't more people useem'? Or what that guy on something?

Yes they're legal. They are evaluated under the BoW rules for those weapons, the general ones and the specifications in the Appendix. To be conservative, I would consider them as part of the striking surface, and thus covered by the Appendix B rule 1.3.3:
1.3.3. Two and one-half inch rule?No surface on a striking edge (sword tip, arrow head, spear head, javelin head, etc.) whether designed for stabbing or not, may pass more than 0.5 inch through a 2.5 inch hole; swords with a semicircular tip, with a minimum 1.5 inch radius are exempt from this rule. See Appendix A, 1.4.4.2.


That latter bit might not be applied by all weapons checkers, but I would apply it to javelin fins as javs tend to do wierd things in flight or after being deflected.
