Another question on polearms

I was wondering, while I doubt it would do any damage since it is not a striking portion, could one use the end of a polearm to strike an opponent(tripping them is right out)? example: I strike with the butt of the weapon, they block, i then strike them with the actual weapon edge. Legal?

No. You should not intentionally strike with non-striking surfaces of weapons, padded or no.
