Face Shield/Helmet question...........

Thinkin' about gettin' one of those plastic face shield thingies that you see some basketball players wear now (Lebron Jameson or whatever wears one I think, not sure, don't watch basketball) and, realizing that, yes, it's legal to wear protective equipment, my question is, say I decide to not only wear one of those, but also, decide to build a helmet around it/on it; would that still be a legal helmet? Just curious, thanks.
