shield kick resulting in RULES enforced loss of leg

Postby Vohx the Fox » Tue Feb 16, 2010 12:11 am

ok, something that happened the other day at practice has had some rules questions come up.
i went to shield kick someone that was down a knee, and he slightly turned his shield and my foot slipped off and hit his hand and sword. their was more sword hit than hand, like 70-30. i took a knee after, but im just wondering how that would actually work in the rules. my foot hit his blade from and accident, i took a leg, but would it really have been necessary? also, how often does this happen? never really noticed it before.

Kicking someone in the hand? Rarely. Kicking someone in the chest? A little more often, especially if you're Killian (Why Killian? Seriously. ;) ) Just apologize and go about your business, no reason to take a limb.

Ahh, I think he is referring to his kicking of the blade of the weapon. So...here's my take on the situation.

1. You didn't grab the weapon, so you are good there.
2. You did stike the weapon with your foot, was it with sufficient force?
a. If yes, then take a leg.
b. If no, you are fine, fight on.

It doesn't matter if it's an accident or not, a hit is a hit, without regard to who does the hitting. Friendly fire counts, even from yourself, but you always make the determination if a hit landed successfully or not.

Id say that if you were going for a shield kick and missed then it most likely had the sufficient force of a strike. Its just like missing a grab on a spear and accidentally slapping the tip. It was most likely a good hit and you did the right thing.
