Metal Detectors at Events: Arrows

Postby Phoxly » Sun Feb 13, 2011 1:52 pm

So it came to my attention the last small event we had at Las Vegas (ATD came down, along with 2 other realms) that one of the archers who came down had their arrows fail because they did not have a penny cap.

"What do you mean, "pennying" my arrows... I've never done that."

So following the topic of Metal Detectors....

Do they metal detect arrows at events? Most metal detectors will say what kind of metal is found, which would also rule out the possibility of someone leaving actual piercing arrowheads on their weapons, which has been discovered... :o

I have never heard of a metal detector at an event, but that's not actually a bad idea. I'm not sure if this is really rules question though.

this is a good idea, but i am thinking we would need some testing to make sure it is a valid step. i am not saying that we dont need to make sure the penny is there, we do, but the steps to check need to be tested to ensure that the test itself acuratly displays the status of the penny.

This might be a little mean; but historically weapons checkers could take apart 1 arrow from a batch to check to make sure it was constructed safely. Some would do it to all sets of arrows at large events like Oktoberfest, archers knew they would have to re-assemble the arrow later. The practice has since fallen out. Cruel you might say, but safe.
