Why three types of hits for weapon's checking

I was thinking about this and why do we use a medium hit? Would it not seem better to do a light and a hard only? The reason is if it fails for light then its obvious it fails. We swing hard therefore a hard hit is necessary. It seems kind of redundant to have the medium hit in there, and I think it could preserve some backs and save time for weapons checking if we cut ou tthe medium strike. I guess I am looking for the thoughts behind having the medium hit in there. Thanks.

* and Soo - I guess I could see that for the reds, but has it been that way for a blue? However, I do understand the reason to encompass all weapons checking for ease of the checkers.

because if it fails on medium it would cripple you on hard. this weekend we had a new red, i went light, good, med, they said" wait, i know where this is going, fail". i could have ended thier day with that hard swing.

^ this. A light hit wont necessarily revel a mildly failing weapon, where a med strike would, before moving on to the said crippling hard hit.

It really has nothing to do with ease of checkers. I'm hitting myself with something that has the potential to be very painful, I'll take my sweet time working my way up to a hard hit.
