The thing is obviously armor, it absorbs hits well enough, has good weight to it, and encumbers as armor should, but the leather is just shy of 3/16". I'm going to replace the aluminum plates with steel across the whole thing to meet the 1/2" gap rule, but what gauge does the metal need to be to make it legal without being cheesy?

studs/rings/plates can not be no more than 1/2 inch apart.- 3.7.2. Composite Armor must be identifiable as Armor by appearance
Thanks.
***EDIT*** Appreciate the response Kage.
