Half-Swording

Postby Karne » Mon Oct 31, 2011 9:18 am

I just read an interesting thread on the armourarchive (meaning I was lurking like a banshee), which talked about greatsworders wielding their blades by choking up past the ricasso, essentially turning the weapon into a quarter-staff or a very short spear.

http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=140607

Is there anything in our rules that says we can't do the same? Can I hold the blade of my own weapon with my own hand? Would it have to be a guantletted hand?

Also, if no's the answer, has anyone built a * sword or great sword with a ricasso in our sport, what would that look like?

Questions, questions dear Belegrim....

You may grab your own weapons striking surface, you may not grab the striking surfaces of your opponents weapons.

use the search function, this has been said many many times.

to answer, yes, you can touch your blade in any way you wish. ( yes i said that) now the question is when is it your weapon? lets say for instance i close with a opponent, grab their handle and in the struggle for the weapon, after grabbing the handle, grab the blade. at what point does it stop being your weapon and start being our weapon and transfer to my weapon?

this is the gray area, and hardly ever comes up.

IMO, it's is the opponents weapon until they are no longer in control of it, i.e. they aren't holding it anymore. Until they let go, it is theirs and you may not grab the striking surface.
