minimum striking surface

Postby Tails » Sun Nov 20, 2011 6:23 pm

Is there a minimum striking surface for blues? I tried looking for it in the BOW but the closest thing I could find was...
1.4.1.5. The minimum overall length of a Class 1 is 12 inches plus the length of the handle and pommel.

Bear suggested that it was that you only need 12" of padding of any kind. I'd like to know because I make small weapons.

Well are you thinking mace or sword?

Sword I would measure the blade length.

If it's a mace I would still like to measure least 12 on the barrel of any sort of padding; haft included; as long as there was a very noticeable striking surface. Basically if it looks like its nothing but a haft I'm going to fail it for safety reasons.

So basically the shortest weapon I will pass is ~18". 12(blade/barrel)+4(handle)+2(pommel)=18(overall)

But that is not the rule Kage. No tails, there are no minimum provisions for striking surface lengths. The rule you quoted does indeed say that you only need 12" of padding in general. Not that it had to be striking surface. you could make a 14" weapon with 6" of striking surface, 6" of haft padding 1" handle and a 1" pommel and as long as it passed all the other rules about template stuff it would be PERFECTLY legal. We pass quad hammers, aka flanged maces, out here all the time and they only have between 6 and 8 inches of striking surface on a 30" or bigger weapon.

No, you say the shortest weapon you would pass has 12 inches of barrel/blade. That is pretty clearly saying that you wouldn't pass a quad hammer.

Oh really?

Pretty much say right there that if it's 12" of padding from tip to handle I don't care what the **** is on there as long as I can tell there is a striking surface. So ~yes~ we ARE saying the same thing.

PS. Par you still owe me a check, paypal, or cash for the shield. :P

But you could do a weapon that was 1" blade, 11" haft padding 1/2"handle, 1/2" pommel making a weapon 13" overall perfectly legal.

Sorry man, I thought I already sent that to you. I'll get it out asap.
