Sword Grip Question

Postby Sieglatan » Wed Jan 18, 2012 12:30 pm

Hail all-

When I make a sword grip, I use ribbed armor leather with either deer or buffalo leather stretched over it, so it conforms to my grip, etc. etc. I'm thinking of a new design for an off-hand sword to be worn on my back, and I saw this design on a Cold Steel combat knife-

I've worked off of the ideal, and come up with a structurally sound design-

My question is- Would that protrusion on the grip of the weapon violate the 2" rule? I'd love the input of those on this board before I commit to resources and all. Thanks in advance!

I think it would be fine. the 2" rule only applies to pommels, and there are no rules about what can be on a handle. Of course it would have to pass your local weapon check, but i don't see any reason why it would be illegal.

as a rule i would limit its size to less than .5inch protrusion. just to be certian it would draw attention form a checker.

As long as it can not harm another fighter I don't see why not...

If its super rigid and sharp id be against it for others safety but it is not covered under current bow rules so it comes down to region and realm practice...

Always ask your self ... "if it wasn't mine would I allow it to pass?"... just a rule of thumb I like to practice
