using a weapon to deflect a red

I was fighting last my friend with a red glaive last Saturday. I was deflecting his red shot with my sword into my shield blocking or reducing the force of the red shot so that it was not sufficient for breaking shields the sword wasn't on the shield so I do not think it was anviling is this legal?

If the sword wasn't on the shield and reduced the impact of the weapon so that it didn't strike with sufficient force, then you're correct.
