Incidental padding

Postby Conquering_Hero » Sun Sep 01, 2013 8:39 am

Hey all I'm building a red club and was wondering about the rules regarding handle length/incidental padding. The core itself is sitting on about 50 in, and I wanted most of an 18 in handle for choking up and blocking. Can I start the incidental padding there, or does it need to be considered a striking surface in order to not count towards the handle length?

And I'm building a club so I don't flat anyone while I'm learning red. I'm a big dude and I'd feel terrible if I accidentally hurt someone

You can totally do incidental padding. Your total unpadded length can be at most 18" or 1/3rd the total length (whichever is greater). If you make a 60" club, your max unpadded handle length is 20". You can break up the remainder as you see fit: 20" striking surface and 20" incidental padding, 30" striking surface and 10" incidental padding, etc.
