Tournament Heralding

Postby Bear » Thu Jan 23, 2014 1:33 pm

Is there a reference or written set of guidelines for tournament heralding? Often times at events I will receive multiple sets of instructions on how to oversee matches such as, "Only call clean or unclean at the end of the fight if the outcome is changed by that of the cheater" or "Actively call ignored shots". In my eyes there should be two sets of guidelines, one for one on one fights (Single Blue, S&B, Champions) and one for group fights (Alpha Omega, 4-Man, 10-man, etc.). The one on one fights tend to be less chaotic so its easier to use the Clean/Unclean format but when you start adding more people the level of chaos increases exponentially and a Call As You See format should be applied.

Personally though, I do not like the clean/unclean format to begin with because it doesn't provide either of the fighters with information about what went wrong.

I miss the days of Cedric not giving any warning and just tackling the person who is cheating while screaming YOU'RE DEAD

That is a failing of the herald calling it unclean. Orion had it originally set up that the herald would let the unclean fighter know why it was called unclean.

However, that kind of got lost over the years. Don't worry, though, we're bringing it back and are going to be working with volunteer heralds prior to tournaments to educate them on the correct process.

Tournaments are generally run by individuals or units, and can have whatever rules they want. It's up to the person running the tournament to determine how they want to handle cheaters.

I have an old picture of Cedric tackling HookiePete. I should find that...

There is one set of rules but a million ways to herald... In tournaments i help run I tend to have what I call the octagon of truth and explain that our call is final and if you have an issue bring it up after... When there is 8 sets of eyes watching hit taking seems to be really good... but there is only one set of rules we abide by...
