On the way back from an event this weekend, one of my fighters asked if it was legal to kick back shields. My immediate thought was him lifting his leg and plowing it right in the middle of a back shield, sending said fighter flying to the ground. Thus my initial response was "Gods no". However, then I began thinking more about it, and decided I didn't have an answer for him and that I would consult the boards. Here are my concerns.

Shield kick in middle of shield may injure fighter somehow

shield kick near/to shield edge could displace shield to allow for an attack to get around it to chosen target area

This came up due to explaining the "turtle-ing" technique employed by back shield fighters. I did explain that if they don't know your behind them, slamming into them like that could get you ejected from an event for safety reasons.

anyway, thoughts on this matter?

Safety is paramount. Kicking someone from behind is not safe. Don't do it.

Yeah, I'm with Cyric. I can't really think of a situation where this would be safe.

If we cant bash people without them facing us, lets use logic to take that a step further and say no. Dont shield kick someone who isn't aware

In regards to the current rules question about shield kicking from behind, it is in fact currently expressly prohibited by the BoW.

Code:
3.5.4.3. A person may not Bash, Check or Shield Kick an opponent's rear quadrant. Shield pushing or incidental contact in an opponent’s rear quadrant is allowed.
