Thank you muchly; that is a pretty sword. (Hmmm, a 7ft sword might be a bit much though.)

Axgar makes his poles out of thick walled bamboo. That shorty used to be longer, as he breaks them he converts them to shorter ones. Most of his 10' poles eventually become 22" boot knives. Construction is your basic box style blue consttuction styles. In Amtgard there are those that have made and succesfully used pvc water filled cores. Proper mechanics will really generate some force. Poor mechanics will **** you up faster. I totaly concure with f this idea Arrakis hit it on the head. Drill with your pell and move on. L

This is a stupid idea. Thanks for the science to back up the common sense. Especialy for the spear. It would never work on a spear. You want your spear to be light with as little flex as possible. Nice sword, Hardiron. Does it stab? If not, it should. Never Use bamboo for Belegarth. FB

yes it stabs, although i need to rebuild it because it broke down due to an experiment to firm it up a bit.

Good day to everyone here i am new to the sport (about 6 months) and have been learning the craft of foamsmithing. I have made a a few errors ive learned from but the wonderful advice here have prevented me from making many more. I find crafting these foam tools of war very fun so far and as a novelty i would like one of these hydro swords to put in my growing collection.
now for my question: i read a post where a man had one in his car in arizona and the water expanded and the boffer bursted. i live in the desert winds region of southern california and it will happen here also. I have been contemplating a non toxic non expanding material to resist this expansion issue and i look forward to some advice. Olive oil becomes rancid so i tossed that idea (dont want to be the guy to spray rancid or toxic fluid onto friends if it breaks when playing with it). A friend of mine suggested baby oil and if i recall it isnt toxic but i am concerned of what happens if it splashes in someones eyes. Any ideas?
note i understand it might not work very well and i wish it in my collection as a novelty to show and to use during practice for fun not for any official events. (i have a nice counter weighted blue i made at 40" finished with tire weight counter weights for that, thanks for that tip on cheap/ free weights at tire shops whoever posted that one!)
Also i dont plan to make it a red but a blue perhaps about 30-40" long total.

But, but, he -knows- it won't work very well! He just wants it as a "hey, look at this!" piece. /sarcasm I think the worst part is he mentions that he's a new foamsmith. Really? Get better at the normal stuff, before you try something bizare. The sad part is that, if this thread wasn't so bad in the first place, this actually wouldn't be a case of necromancy; the individual found a thread, and had a "legitimate" question, so he posted it instead of starting a whole new thread. Or what would have been a legit question, if the whole topic wasn't so bad in the first place.

my mistake for not begining a new thread. i was unaware of the social mistake of resuming an old thread. reading through these boards many old things to you are very new to me. yes i am aware it is not a good weapon design but i want to see one and swing one around. i would like to share with others this curious though "lame" idea. the cost to make one looks to be cheap enough to satisfy my curiosity. i have built 10 boffer weapons so far so i have the basics down pretty good and will enjoy this experimental build. just begining this has taught me something new already...avoid posting on topics with an old date. as for my question it was answered somewhere else already. i shall try to use honey as it never rots though it will crystalize eventually or cooking oil as its non toxic and may flow fast enough to produce the effect i am looking to see.
i came to this hobby with about 10 years of working with contact cement and already had some foam modeling experiance so the methods you have taught here have come to me very easily. this really does not seem like a very difficult project. if anyone is interested when i do build this ill take pictures and make a new thread. i think it will make a pretty cool piece of "artwork". again i did read it all and know you guys consider it lame as a weapon but i think it is a cool concept, fun practice build and will be a nifty piece of "art" when i am done. i am sorry if i offeneded or annoyed anyone. i like to take the time and do the research before i begin a project and the only thing i was unsure of was the best liquid material i thought here woudl be the best minds to ask advice from. thank you to those who pm'ed me with tips and understanding.

dont worry about it, actually posting in old threads is ok if you are on topic and have something significant to add.
remember with forums, * *. so dont take too much of what is said personal. you may be a great guy, or a douche. nobody knows you yet so just get to some events and make some cool stuff, then people will start to listen.
oh and hydro blades are a terrible idea. i just made a 2 lbs 6'6" glaive. i need no machanical advantage to help me get red hits.
