Round or Blade

I just want to know why a person uses a round sward vs. a standard blade sword.

kinda hard to flat blade someone with a round blade.
easier to maintain the edge on a round blade.
its not a round blade its a barrel mace, a very long barrelled mace.

There's no such thing as a round sword - that's a club.

Yeah, that's a good point--if you pad the entire shaft of an axe to be safe as a club, and THEN add an axe head, the whole shaft should be legal to hit with. At least, there's nothing in the rules as I understand them to prevent this. It wouldn't work for a flail, however, since that would make the flail have two separate striking surfaces, while those on the axe-with-clubbing-shaft would be connected just as in a mace or club.

Kohntre--ha. Yeah, it's kinda tricky to get the straps in the right place when they're black, and all of the armor is black, and it's night time. But, it takes waaay less time to put on than my plate armor--I usually need two people to help with that.

hey kohntre, you're really derailing this thread. i'm not a mod... but come on.

lefie wrote:I just want to know why a person uses a round sward vs. a standard blade sword.

i think people tend to use round "turbo-clubs" because they are lighter, faster, and can hit with any surface. easier to use and easier to make.

i think people (and myself) use swords because there is an edge one can feel, they look cooler, and they seem more realistic.

turbo-clubs are regarded as lame by many participants in belegarth.

wow Im a toadie...
I do see a lot of people using the "turbo club", and some of those people are respected for their abilities on the field...
It comes down to preference and showmanship. And I guess one can either abide by others opinions or not.
I am not a fan of tower shields, but they are there so I will work a way around them over them or through them...

I prefer the blade because its lighter and faster.
but there is the risk of flatting......

tube sword/turboclub=lazy & lame.

a regular barrel mace is okay because the striking surface is smaller, but the tube is a joke. a really dull joke.

I have a weapon designed to work as a club, but it's the equivalent of using a metal baseball bat as a weapon. It's a tad heavier than a sword of similar size, but it doesn't have that flatting problem. I like it cuz I don't haft people with it, and I don't flat people with it. But its similar in speed to your average edhellen sword. A war club isn't a strange weapon by any means, it just depends, if you make one thats bordering the minimum weight requirements its pretty cheesy, but if the weight is your average pound and an once or so, It's perfectly legit.

excuse me but a 12-16oz war club "turbo club" is a cheezy lame joke but a ultralite 8-12oz wrist flicker tapping sword is not, hiding behind a 33oz car hood, oh excuse me tower shield is not??? ...
I understand this is not Medieval Reenactment, but Medieval/fantasy combat with rules to allow fun and safety for larger spectrum of people but lets not be rude about things. To name call cheezy-lame joke of weapons or equipment is just as uncalled for and rude as non participants to make rude and unfriendly remarks about us when we are sparring or walking through a store in garb or whatever we are doing that draws attention to ourselves and our sport.
I dont like something, fine I say it or not. but I dont name call. no need for that.

Clubs fall under the same new wieght restrictions as swords so the ultralight arguement is dead.

I am aware of the wight requirements, but I have heard of the debate that ensued from the increased weight req. and It seemd quite heated. But as you say the weight req is 12oz or greater.
my point was not to go on about the ultralites but the tones and language used when referring to weapons /equipment participants are particular to, or strongly against.
we all have opinions about equipment and rules, we are entitled to these opinions, being opinions does not make them facts or law. If you like a weapon/equipment use it. If you dont like it, dont use it. Even better if you dont like something used, find a way to defeat it again and again without mercy. Let the other guy enjoy what he /she uses, and if you can help them die for their cause using that gear, all the better for you.
