You still haven't just looked for instructions on the wikki and with the search bar?
And as to me being "schooled" by anyone, think again. I know exactly where my weak points lie. It's never a surprise anymore.
Like I said, I just call light alot when fighting chumps who tickle at me with Quicktubes.

The idea is to use a stiff inner foam, to top you from hitting core and acting as a more sturdy first layer, with a lower poundage outer layer to provide the give of the hit. Progressive resistance means it never FEELS like you're getting hit by a rock, despite the fact that the inner layer may be stiff enough to feel like one. The first way I saw this accomplished was just a layer of military foam followed by a layer of blue. It's progressed past that, and may even use quarter inch layers now instead of the usual half inch.

interesting. does it confer any weight advantage over standard blue foam, or is it purely a way to make the weapon feel like it is hitting harder?

None of the above, really. The advantage isn't so much shaving weight as shaving size. The biggest draw back of a round weapon is it's diameter. You can't hit a 1.5" gap with a 2.5" weapon, you can with a sword that's 1.25" wide. You CAN hit a 2.75" gap with a 2.5" weapon, you can't with a 3.0" weapon, which is just under what 3 layers would give you.

The idea is to make a passing weapon that weighs less.

The "harder" foam on the core is to keep you from feeling core.

And the lower pound foam is to give it a passing hit.

I have done some checking, and I have come to the conclusion that even though "speed bats" were not around during mideival times, but they could have been very easily. I don't know about the killing capability of one, because it would be something around the lines of a branch, or a shrunken down version of a kanabo.
Some people like speed bats, some for the right reason, some for the questionable reasons. I prefer edged weapons because I feal silly swinging club around.
As for good building instructions, I have none. Good luck finding some help I'm shure someone will help.

That's hardly fair. I only use the flail as a side arm when I'm using weapons over 8 feet long. I'd use something else, but the flail doesn't fall out and leave me hanging. Swords are always gone when I need them.
And we're not talking about flails, here. If you want to open that can of worms we could.
But, I think this thread has run it's course. People have examined the things they believe. Everything is as it should be.

I was shocked as well, I showed up at Yestare with a set of new Octaganal rounds with a core the sales guys said I could "run over with a car" and wanted Fork to give them a good working over. When he picked one up he was like "hey, that's really nice,....."<drops it quickly with a look of what did I almost do?> and then says "But I can't use that, I'm leading the push against these things". The next day I see him swinging a flail...... sad sad day indeed!

As a side note, I may be sacrificing that other pole core to make some Bel flats Fork, if I do I'll get you at least one of them, Nash is still swinging for the fences with the Octag-omni I'm having him test out.

There's a lot of love in here.
I personally prefer flat blades. I've used a club before, and it was fun because of how heavy-ended it was. Yeah, I know, weapons should be balanced, but it make a wicked sound bashing against a shield. IMHO, if you use a club/bat, at least give it some weight.

wow so much hostility. last i checked minimum weight was still 12 ounces.get the hell over it. i like how people only want rules that benefit them. oh god if i sleep in sweats im a total newb that brings shame on the game. now i have never met any of you but if i was ever spoken too like this for wanting to make a weapon thats perfectly in the bounds of the rules, i would go to jail real fast. this is directed at no one in particular because theres a few of you clowns here. i started with edged weapons and now 3 years in i finally decide to try a bat and i search how to make a quality one and boom. insults are all i find. its a fantasy game you lousy ****s. maybe im a ninja with magic speed powers and seeing as theres no magic i use light weapons to portray that. seriously people i have seen enough of your real weapons are better BS fights. if you dont like it stop playing the game we dont need whiny pansies anyway. i know im comin in strong seeing as no one has attacked me but you guys are laying into people way to heavy. your two bit bullies that need to get over whatever issues make you the pompous pricks you are and stop treating people like s*** . PROBLEM? too bad take the stick out your *** and deal with it. ban me if you like but i seriously think that the tact on these boards is lacking. this is the most offensive ill ever be unless im directly atttacked. but denadil, and no i dont know him at all, did not deserve the response he was givin. and ive spent my whole life standing up for people so im not gonna stop now. if this is the last post ill ever be allowed to post id like to say that i hope you all come to your senses and realize that the rules are the mother******* rules. Peace to all.

i hope none of you take this as a personal attack. im really quite the peace love hippie type but i get very riled up when i see this going on. as for the topic i found everything i needed. i was glad to see no mention of pool noodles....you have no idea the headaches people that use that cause me...as for weight im hoping to get these light but not too light. and as for the reason its because i took escrima for a bit and i know alot of martial arts dont transfer well but for some weird reason i got it to work. how ever some of the strikes dont work with an edged weapon. its hard to explain. i prefer edged weapons but i do wanna see how these behave. i doubt id use them with a board or any were else but duel weilding. mostly cuz im not a board user that much. and also cuz my edged weopons are better for my other styles.

Hahaha... oh, man. This is how to necro a thread in style.

This guy comes out guns blazing with an invective two part wall of text lacking capitalization, punctuation, paragraph breaks, and colored with starred out swears, 4chan memes, posturing, martial arts credentials, veiled threats of violence followed up by a CYA "I'm really cool in person" clause, and baby's first hyperbole (I'm a super fast time-travelling wizard).

You managed to achieve in 20 minutes what most idiots take weeks to build up to. Mad props.

I mean you no disrespect, but you're acting like a * off teenager with a chip on his shoulder and a hard-on for attention. Yeah, there are people that don't like speedbats. Whoop-dee-doo. This thread was well over a year old before you decided to stand up for a "newcomer" (Denidil has been fighting a long * time) over internet ego issues all of...the same day that you registered.

Our boards have an interesting dynamic. People pose stupid questions all the time, and the veterans around here know the answers and deliver them bluntly. If the person continues to be stupid about an issue, they are treated like a mouthbreather until they prove otherwise.

Also, most of the people doing any "badmouthing" in this thread are reported to be fairly nice folks in person. I've heard nothing but good things about Fork's personality in person. Most of the insults in this thread have been good natured, too. Jokes between friends. I can see how you'd have trouble understanding that, though.

I said it about 80 times, but here you go, once more for you:
Quicktubes require nearly no skill to wield. They retard one ability to control the edge of the weapon. Using this easier to use weapon to win fights by being a sloppy fighter is unsportsmanlike.
Everyone is allowed to be an unsportsmanlike * bag.
If you have a problem with me, you're going to see me in a week. You should beat me up if you're so **** offended.
Or you could just shut the **** up.
I garuntee that I'll say the same **** to your face as I say here, so prepare you sissy hippie sensibilties.

Just to keep up the cool new double post style.
By the by, new guy, you can just go ahead and type out swear words. The reason YOU see stars when I curse it because you have the word filter turned on on your account. Change the settings to grown up mode and read all the foul **** I actually say, then you'll be really ****** mad.
And you can never really get censored or banned here. So stop being a drama queen. You're perfectly within your right to call me a * repeatedly. Have fun with it.

Can I get a third post? This is getting rediculas, no?
And just so "some people" don't think I am just being a negative jerkface, here are my very serious concerns:
Sportsmanship. I truly believe that we can become so much better as both an organisation and as sword fighters through using heavier bladed weapons. So many really good fighters have gone to round blades and now throw sloppy wrist rolls that have barely enough snap to count. That is lessening the skill level of our group when it was just getting really good.
Safety. Many people are making really nice quicktubes, this doesn't apply to them. Other people are using amtgard type pool noodle quicktubes. Those aren't safe. The people I know who use them have lots and switch them out as they fail(which is the best practice for such things), but that really is not very safe at all with the rate that they fail at.
Looks. Flat swords look better in pictures. I also thing all weapons should be black, grey or brown for this purpose, but thats another thread.
These are things I beleive in. So I talk about them when they come up. I swaer alot to get peoples attention and to be funny. When I tear somebody up, it's usually hilarious and they always have said something stupid. I come from an old school world where people could talk trash to each other(and use bad words, OH NOES!) and it was ok, especialy in sports. Which is what this is to me, sports time.
There's your nice explanation.
Now eat me.

ok cool i can cuss was unaware. previously from dag boards and i think people know how they are.. the reason i was on this page was because im looking to biuld some of the higher end bats. not a pool noodle **** piece. and i get riled up easy at **** like what i saw. the only reason im not * now is that fork and..caleidah managed to take what i said and rather than JUST INSULTS which really im not gonna get mad about i wasent nice either, you actually managed to fit useful **** in there. however what none of you understand is im not making them to be cheesy. the guys up here told me that alot of people wont take hits unless i learn to use the body mechanics required to make them hit right. and i believe fork said that to. the limp wristed * fighting got beat out of me along time ago. not to mention i use a blue thats not exactly light i think it sits a couple ounces above red minimum. not sure how that happened but yea.it was made for me so no idea. when i borrow speed bats i get killed just as much trying to wrap with them as when i wrap with a sword. why? because i have felt those limp wristed half wraps hit me and laughed.so will everyone i try them on. so why be lazy when i can just put some effort in and use the weapon right. the weapons are a challenge to use well. and honestly if my unit command saw my fighting get lazy id get the living **** kicked out of me.lets see....fork to be honest the more i read your posts the more i feel like a lawyer seeing both sides. however you do seem like a bit of an * but so am i. you held your ground which i expected and came back with legitimate response and the insults to match my own. that i can respect. but next time read what i say before you give me the same stuff you give to people who just started fighting. im a newb to the boards and a...i think middling is the term?? in person. i can understand thinkin im a newb based on yesterday being my first day on here. the body mechanics and pool noodle talk has passed my ears often. the only thing i did not know was how to do it with sturdy foam now i do. i believe when people say your a good guy in person. i dont doubt it but text does not portray ones mood very well. so yea theres my piece. oh and fork beard...just cuz you said to...your a * . ill let you know thats a joke just so im not misunderstood

Enough to realize the rest was worthless. There are rare individuals who have something amusing or relevant nestled away in the wall of text. Sadly, this wall of text was only the eye bleedy kind.
