Red Core

Postby Bran ap Eynon » Fri May 20, 2011 10:09 pm

I have an extra 8' bandpole lying around and was considering making two 2h reds out of it. At a 4ft core, does bandpole hit too hard? I feel like I read somewhere that it might, but I can't find the post containing that info.

That was about a red sword that might help you out. I havnt used Bandshoppe but it seems like at that size and with the force you could put into it, it might need more then just minumal layers.

Then again, I've never made a bandshoppe Red besides a Glaive. But to be safe i'd make it 4-5 Layers.

I think band shoppe is the way to go its strong and will not break anywhere near as easy as PVC. Adding an extra layer also could help.

Look at that link, sieg is build a bigger red than you a but he has good tricks to makeing them like adding the green stab layer to the blade to soften the impact. Hopefully this helps.

I personally wouldn't waste a perfectly good bandpole on two min-reds that would probably need copious padding of some sort. If I were in your situation, I'd find someone who has, or at least has access to some 11/16 fiberglass rods and perhaps trade with them. Thems are real nice for two-handers (it's what Edhellen uses in theirs). Oh, and whatever you do, don't use PVC for reds. Just don't.

But yea, that bandpole deserves to be made into a polearm.

You would seriously get no flex out of those and you'd have to pad the **** out of them to the point of being unsafe. I vote a 7 foot red.

^ Seconded

Make a spear or a glaive out of it, then if you still want some min reds, I'd actually recommend 1/2" fiberglass core, but only if you want it to be min. Much longer and you'll want to switch up to 11/16". If you do elect to make the min reds with 1/2", you may need to weight the handle a little bit or they may not get up to the proper weight.

Good luck sir!
