Sword Fry's

Postby randy » Tue Jun 21, 2011 8:18 pm

Here is some sword fry's I have been working on. Cutting the MC foam using a table saw.

Rev tested a couple of them at yestare? I think the event was. Glue is the major trouble I am having right now, California EPA laws don't allow for the good DAP.

**** the EPA.

Bastards ruin all the fun. They've even got a stranglehold on the military.

We accidentally ran over a desert tortoise in our tank at a CAX at 29 palms and had to hurry up and bury that thing and lie through our teeth so we didn't get fined or jail time in the brig.

epa has done some good things, but i think not allowing proper dap is a bit too far.

Yeah cali sucks for most things. Most of it is 2lb. For some reason there is random 4lb in there. I also have black 4lb that was used at yestare. Gonna test out the design in the next few weeks. Sending some to peter once I know the glue isnt going to fall apart. I may just send him the foam though and let him glue it there.

Not to ruin your excitement, but a word of caution. We did the 2# eva on the core and it works OK for about 1 day to 6 months depending on how hard you hit.

Mine lasted 6 months, Bo's blew up in 1 hit.

We not use all 4# eva box layers

What was the core you used? What I have discovered so far is that the heavier the core is, the quicker the foam will give out. Apparently one of my 4# versions blew out already. Hoping to get it back from Rev to see where the breakdown occurred.

I think the 2# will be mainly for amtgard/ plasti dip. I like the weight of a 4# when I play bel.

Not all 4# EVA is equal. I just got 3 different samples and all of them were of different tensile strength.

Do you find tensile strength an important factor in a foam? I'd think ILD, Density, and compression strength would be more important, but I can see where skin tension-type stuff would be important.

lower tensile strength allows blade twist which could pull the 4# from the core.

Ahhh, hadn't considered that. Cool times.

Do you know the indentation load deflection for the 4# you use?

My biggest disbond issue so far with these is that the grip tape i used before the dap was applied wrong, so it became too loose. Took a minute to figure out, but it ruined 4 swords. Now that it's fixed, im 100%
