Fixing a punchshield

Postby Hendell Stoneshield » Sat Aug 13, 2011 9:32 pm

I have a question for fixing my punch shield. After using my medium punch shield for 5 years the spine finally decided to separate from the shield itself taking a small amount of foam with it. My question is what kind of glue should I use to reglue the spine to the shield? I have never done this before and my first thought was using dap but I figured someone might know of a better adhesive for this repair. Any advice is appreciated.

I always hear of people using either DAP or gorilla glue on shields.

Gorilla glue will probably be your best bet in this situation.

How was it put in the shield? If it was the cut a V method on the wiki, I'd definitely use gorilla glue and make sure you both use enough water and let it fully cure before you use it. Personally, putting in a punch handle with glue I always attach some weight to the handle to really hold it into place as it dries.

By the spine i think your meaning Handle, and with that in mind i'd use gorrilla Glue. Within 2 months of having my sheild, i ripped my handle out, When it redried it was fine again. Depends on how your using your handle. And dont even rip the foam off the handle, just add gorrilla glue and reset it, its just more area for it to grab.

I would use dap, gorilla glue becomes jagged when full dry and can cut into the foam but after 5 years I think its time for a new shield anyways

I wouldn't use DAP. GG that ****, or silicone glue.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I used gorilla glue and the handle is back in place and works just as good as the day I got it. Thanks again.
