The pipe insulation is ONLY used for the haft padding. It is not durable enough to be used legitimately at any other point in the weapon's construction.

There are no staffs in Belegarth. Because of how they are constructed, they are really Pugil Sticks.

I don't use pipe insulation for anything. Wears out too quick to be worth it. Sometimes one good squeeze and it's gone.

Your milage might vary. There are different qualities of pipe insulation (and foam noodle, for that matter). I use a 3/4" walled pipe insulation for my spears (incidental padding), and its held up fine.

There are a couple of different ways to make stabbing tips for spears. The method you're referencing (the football tip) is an older method, but if you haven't built a spear before, and don't have much experience foamsmithing, then it's the method you'll probably want to go with. (I linked the tutorial earlier.)

You only want to use pipe insulation for the incidental/shaft padding. And make sure to find a thicker pipe insulation; the regular 3/8" is not thick or durable enough. (Alternatively, some people use pool noodle for the incidental/shaft padding.)

Where are you located? The nearest realm should have folks who are experienced in this sort of thing, and can help you out.

(And a "poof" football is normally a Nerf football.)
