Splitting a fiberglass rod?

I'm wanting to split a 1/2" round down the middle. This is for a personal project. Has anyone done it? What is your technique? Can it even be done? I've seen it done on a hollow carbon fiber, but from what I know CF all runs the same direction while FG is all mishymashy tangles. I'm even open to untested (thought out) suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Sure, it can be done, but it's going to be a pain in the *. If you're looking to completely and entirely 'split' a rod (as opposed to cut), you're going to be out of luck. Due to the composite nature of fiberglass, you're not going to be able to evenly separate it without at the very least accounting for blade tolerance.

I did it with a vise and a nice sharp wood chisel. tapped it through near the end, vised it in vertically, and then tapped down all the way through the length of it. wasn't that hard, slightly uneven but the two pieces still fit together very closely afterwards.
