That looks really good, and I hate to be the one to break this to you, but your glaive should probably fail. The spikes on the wolf-head probably fail the 2.5" rule. Now the rules only cover striking surfaces and cross-guards, but typically any part of a weapon is checked to satisfy this requirement. So there is wiggle room on how the rule is interpreted, but I'd say these protrusions fail an interpretation of the rule that matches its spirit and intent.

Easy fix will be cutting 45 degree notches outta the corners of the ears and fur. The actual thickness of the shield hook is close to 3.5 inches so the cuts will remove the ability to pass and inch through a 2.5 inch hole.

The geometry involved is pretty complicated. I recommend getting a 2.5" hole saw and creating a template to test the corners from all angles. Depending on how you cut your notches your idea might work. Another option would be to fill in the negative space between the spikes with foam but paint them a contrasting color.

This sounds like the best plan of action. It would a terrible shame to modify it otherwise. Beautiful weapon.

That's a sweet looking glaive. Well crafted and the detail is top notch.

I have a question about handle length, and i hope this doesn't come off as *, but it looks like the handle is half the length of the weapon.

1.4.2.3. The maximum handle length for Class 2 Weapons is eighteen (18) inches or one-third (1/3) of the overall length, whichever
is greater. This cannot exceed one-half (1/2) of the overall length.

It might be the angle i'm looking at it from, or my interpretation of the rules, and if so, let me know, but that handle looks like half the weapon's length and well over 18 inches.

First up, I recommend a 2.5" brass ring (cheap online from places that sell macrame cord) instead of a hole saw, since a 2.5" hole saw will produce a 2.7" hole.

Second up, if you mean four layers of bluefoam, that isn't going to pass the hit test. My 49" redswords on 1/2" square fiberglass pass with 4 layers of bluefoam on them, but not for more than about 6 months and they're 3 feet shorter and significantly lighter and more flexible than your glaive.

I'm sort of reminded of Voltron. Not that that's a bad thing.

I just measured the 2.5" hole saw that I got with a porter-cable 6-saw kit this past weekend using the digital calipers from our weapon checking kit, and it came in at 2.500" exactly (outer diameter). Maybe the hole saw you've used was for creating 2.5" circles, not a 2.5" hole. Either way, it is good to keep in mind when you go to buy hole saws.

I like the hole saw method because you can use 1/2" thick stock and then you don't have to worry about measuring how far out the other side of the template something protrudes. If you look at it on edge and you can see a protrusion, it fails.

Drilling in wood either results in a smaller or larger than intended hole, due to compressibility of the material and heat and moisture effects. When you factor in wear... well, I've seen some templates at events that were definitely not to spec. That's why I didn't recommend it.

A 1/2" thick 6061-T6 Aluminum billet with a 2.000" and a 2.500" hole would be ideal. Well. Tungsten would be ideal, for its extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, but it'd be really heavy, so I guess it depends on how much you value weight vs. ludicrously tight accuracy.

Anyway, do you have a piece of 1/2" plywood with a hole drilled by your new saw? It would be interesting to know what the ID of that hole is, fresh, considering that we know the OD of the saw itself.

Been meaning to get more pics up the plasti diping is almost done, just need another coat, and i have yet to get the faux wolf fur for the haft padding. This thing feels amazing in actual combat, and so far for the realm they've allowed it despite the wolf head not passing template. I'm thinking of making a removable kit to allow it to be passed at a national event. But seriously don't think id even take it to one other than to show off how pretty it is

alluminum would be best for the template, i would think it would bend in rough transit. tungsten is besty but pricy, lexan is cheap(by comparison) and very workable for machining.
