You might want to go to 2 1/4" to be safe, but it should.

Just as a comparison, I believe a 3" wide semi-circle that is 1.5" wide still passes more than 1/2" through a 2.5" circle. That's why there is the specific exception in the BoW for weapons made using this method, as it is a popular style of construction and seems safe enough. If you made your pommel with the same method it should probably pass on the same principle. You also could do less than half of a circle but use a radius larger then 3" (think of just shaving a sliver from a larger circle) to ensure that it will not fail template. Also, increasing the thickness of the pommel to 1.75 or even 2.0 inches will help, as the corners will bump into the template sooner.

Luckily, that doesn't matter for pommels, as there is no minimum pass-through; the specification is merely that the pommel may not easily pass (i.e., go entirely through) through the 2.0" ring.

Thanks for the correction, Arrakis, that should make it a lot easier to make this pommel pass. You definitely should check the final product with a template, though, as it can be unpredictable what will or will not fail template.
