Yes. Just make sure there's no solid core in the middle of the head.

chunk of fun noodle works great for the start of a flail head. Then wrap it in blue foam to get it to size.

Noodle's too light. Just wrap a 3"x1" piece of bluefoam in duct tape until it's a cylinder about 2" across, then cap it like you would a core on a sword and wrap bluefoam around it until it makes size.

I took some blue camp mat foam and just rolled it. Just one piece, rolled. Can't remember if I dapped or DS taped the thing. But my realm weapons checker's failed it cuz it hit too hard. (*!)

So now I'm thinking, what can I do to salvage it. As well as the fact that I used the cloth as the chain but threaded through the haft. It stretches out after a few practices. Someone suggested the 'bag head' method where the cloth that covers the haft also is used for the head and then dingleberries (minds out of the gutter please) attached.

Cut (score) the head longitudinally every inch or so around the circumference to the depth of half of the outermost piece of bluefoam. I use a cheapo steak knife. That should loosen the skin (you wrapped your foam too tight) and allow more compression, allowing the head to pass for hit.

As regards the stretchy chain, just pull the fabric chain through to the bottom leaving only about 2" of chain and tie it off well. Cover teh remaining exposed chain with dingleberries til it's almost solid. Now, fight with it and after every fight check to make sure it's still got less than 4" of total chain (don't want it stretching past 6" in mid-swing) and add any new dingleberries that stretch requires of you. Next time, use a non-stretchy fabric.

Eh, my memory is starting to go I guess. Anyways, there's no reason to need a solid core in a flail head...heck, there's no reason to use a fail anyways...get a sword.

Wait, aren't flails what everyone complains about not being able to land blows w/ sufficient force with because the heads are so light and soft?

If you make a flail head out of a POOF ball that weighs like 3 oz and is soft as a kitten, no, you cannot feel the strikes, especially since they're often accompanied and/or preceded by a sharp impact from the (often underpadded) haft of the weapon. If you make the ball out of a torque-wrapped cylinder of solid bluefoam without anything to reduce the impact, it may hit too hard.

It's all about construction.
