I have a large punch shield and i think there are some inherent advantages to being able to strap a shield to your back. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for securing such a shield in such a way that it will stay on and not move around too much.

I put back straps on my punch sheild but........ I did it in a lazy way but hey, It works! lol. All I did was mark on the sides of the were I wanted the straps to go and were they would fit to me how I wanted and then gorilla glued them on. And to finish it off I put duck tape over the glued area for more support and then put on the cover. Its simple and has suvive practice and events for 6 months or so. But just my take. Good luck! :knight:

I've used a strap similar to this:

I would run it through the the shield handle and then sling the shield with the strap going diagonally across my chest.

Nowadays when I arch, I use the same strap with my dome shield run through the shield handles:

A further newbie question but can you wear a shield on your back aside from archery? I'm interested in archery (its been way to windy to really learn) but for now i was envisioning using a shield on my back and a short (5') glaive in my hands. I don't see anything in the BoW against it but i just wanted to make sure it was a legal option

The only back strapped shield I've made used the same straps as above. Granted I didn't make it really for Shield slinging purposes, I went with a double shoulder strap choice:
