(1) Where to buy bulk 4# EVA (2) 2# poly vs mc

Postby Savage » Wed Mar 21, 2012 2:26 pm

1. I'm hoping all you well regarded and knowledgeable foam smiths can clue me in to this. I've been looking around for 1/2" 4# EVA and it's the only foam I haven't had any luck locating. Does it go by a different name at all? Where do you get yours? I feel like it's right under my nose and I'm just failing miserably.

Also, do you think 4# cross-link poly is a reasonable substitute for the EVA? I have been wondering why the EVA seems to be so universally preferred. (To be clear, I'm not trying to advocate the poly, just wondering if it's useable.)

2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of 2.2# Cross-link Poly vs 2# Minicell? I see them both included in builds and I wonder which you all prefer and why. I am gearing up to make a bulk purchase of foam to build a new armory for the realm, and I want to get the right stuff.

Thanks for your time

1. I can supply you with bulk 4# EVA or 4# - 1/2" routered boxes if you want. A sheet is 36"X75". I will not share where i get it from, as I use all of the funds for foam sales to support Belegarth scholarships. Sharing this info will take money from that fund.

Is 4# cross-link poly is a reasonable substitute for the EVA? It might. never tried it.

2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of 2.2# Cross-link Poly vs 2# Minicell?

2# minicell hits like a dream, but it tears too easily and will pulp out before 2.2# cross-poly. The 2.2# CPE will last longer and is more tear resistant. If you want, try to make a weapon of each. The CPE will last longer (some fighters were blowing up my 2# mini blade layers in less than 4 hits)

How much do you charge for a #4 pre-routed box for a bandshoppe pole, for a red?

That is 1" thick eva routed for a 1" bandshoppe. The box makes a 36" blade.

They are $20.

It took me forever to find 4# eva Savage. I had originally gotten it from Best Dag Stuff before he went under and it took me forever to find a replacement supplier. The 4# polyethylene I tried was a fail, it has to large of cells and breaks down very fast. However the 4# Volara I used was a suitable replacement for a long time and actually holds up pretty well. In my opinion though the 4# Eva is the way to go. I finally found a website that carries it! www.foambyconbuilt.com, if you go to order foam and scroll down until you find the 4# eva.

Barley (or anyone else), do you have a supplier you can recommend for 2.2 CPE?
