Curved Punch Shield - Help

I'm following the 3rd design in http://geddon.org/Constructing_a_Punch_ ... ate_design and I want to know how far I should cut in for my PVC and my fist. Considering I'm making it 6-pad thick.

Any suggestions?

I've cut out four. Since it's only a small space for your fist, the extra 2 layers will be stable enough

And if you find that the two layers isn't enough for you hands(should be.), add an Extra peice to the shield face over your punch Grip.

I've seen people do this and shape the foam to look like a brass/iron/whathaveyou boss on the shield. Looks pretty slick, too.
