I have been trying to build myself some blue swords and I followed the instructions using the build guide from the Belegarth website and it all went great and I was happy with how it turned out, but when I gave it to my friend to check it failed for flex. I bought 3/8" cores from Blains Farm and Fleet to do this but they seem not to be working. Any suggestions for what would make a better core, if there is anything that I can do better would be great, or if there is a link I can be directed to that answers all my smithing questions that'd be great. Thanks friends.

Generally speaking, the most widely used core for blue weapons is 1/2 inch fiberglass cores. 3/8 is a bit too small except for maybe rather short weapons, if anything.

I don't know about online ordering, but the farm supply store I get mine at has both the 3/8" and 1/2" round solid fiberglass rods.

Does yours not? Perhaps ask if they can order it for you. Also check other local farm supply stores via the internet/phonebook, etc.

the longest you can usually go is about 30 with a 3/8ths core.

try mills fleet farm, they are usually a little ways away form blains, like next town over type of thing.
