I am thinking about adding a Straight hilt or Cresent hilt to my Red but I am honestly wondering if It is really worth the trouble of adding it to my sword. I was hoping to get the opinion of someone with a hilt already. Is it helpful at all or more decorative? Any advice would be very welcome

They do a little to help deflect shots. And by a little I mean very little. I generally build min-weight equipment, so often I add the hilt to provide a little extra weight, and I think it looks more like a sword with a hilt.

Hilt? You mean cross-guard? Quillons? I HIGHLY suggest you add one, add a riccasso as well, **** not only looks legit, can be used to great effect in CQC for manipulating shields, weapons and people. Doesn't happen on the reg, but still cool to look at and fun to do. This way is pretty meh. http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i293/Silthen_Ru/equipment/Cross-Guard%20Instructions/This one is better and the one I've used on my weapons. http://immortalhighlandguard.webs.com/lockssworddesign.htmWith the advent of plastidip and greater leaps and bounds in technology I hope and expect weapons are going to start looking a lot more legit and cool looking.

I used the bike tire method for my cross-guarded blues too. I built the striking surface up first, however, then simply slid the tire onto the base of the blade and dapped it there, filled 'em with foam, reinforced them with strapping tape, etc. Lasts at least as long as the blade itself, and works best if you have a magical 4lb. box off which to build.

well at the moment 52" blade I think I am gonna try the bike tire method... only because I can use what I have at house instead of needing to buy something. I will attempt once I finish up working on weighting my pommel

Sieg's is crazy in time and money-spent to make, as well as expeirience in not only foam-smithing but leather working. Bike tire is easy, can be obtained for free from a bike shop, takes little material and thereby costs little and needs only the barest familiarity with weapon-making. If you're gonna make the bike-handle cross-guard, you should add it before you weight your pommel because you're gonna want to slide it onto the core, placing it where you want it. Good luck!
