Edhellen Techply punch

Postby Ingvar Ironside » Tue Sep 11, 2012 11:37 pm

I currently own a 28" Edhellen techply strap shield. I'm thinking of starting to use a punch shield, but don't really want to invest in a whole new shield when I have this perfectly good one.

So, considering the materials that the shield is made of and hoping that most of you are familiar with the construction of these shields, does anyone think it would be a bad idea to try to add a center-grip punch handle to the shield? If not, how would I go about doing this?

i did this on a edhellen tear drop in the past. the core broke in half and i didn't want to waste the foam
you can carefully take out the core and add a center handel to the back, i would cut out a \ square about half of the thickness of the plank foam deep and about 6" on each side. then add layers of blue/anyother foam to the back to build up around a center handel. if you want you can even put cloth straps on it too so you can have it both ways. i know fitz has a tutorial for the cloth straps, but i don't know where it is right now

If someone could find and post that tutorial, it would be grand.

I was thinking more along the lines of cutting a hole in the techply core and screwing a handle onto it.

I just pulled it out of my closet and its a bit warped, so I have my guitar head sitting on top of it to see if that straightens it out. If it doesn't, I'll probably just tape the core off and use the foam to make a punch.

I don't have a cloth strap tutorial, I have a centergrip for all foam shield tutorial and a portion of the PD shield tutorial has straping with leather straps on an all foam shield. both are available in the tutorial section at www.calistonarmory.com
