Looking for sword cores

Postby Gabha_Fluffy » Sun Apr 14, 2013 5:42 pm

Hey guys, I'm looking for 1/2" OD fiberglass/kitespar poles with which to make various weapons out of. I checked some of the older threads about this, and even the Foamsmithing Resources page, but most of the links there didnt lead to any sites. Does anyone know of any good places to get poles from that have been tried and tested before?

Thanks.

  • For round fiberglass, I use this site
  • For kitespar, check out Good Winds. I'm told that you want to use the .524 for most everything.
  • If you can access it, this is a great resource list.

Best of luck,

Hey both of you guys, thank you very much for responding to me. I have one more question about the core. My friend and I wanted to know if the use of the solid rods were allowed. I ask this because we are used to using hollow pvc pipe for our cores, and are trying to use better materials in the construction of our weapons.

The only limitation on cores is that they cannot be made of metal. The solid fiberglass is the next step up from PVC. After that, there are tons of different types of cores ranging from hollow, spun fiberglass (kitespar), carbonfiber tubes, others of the like. All of which are progressively more expensive, and range in their uses, and advantages and disadvantages.

If you have any other questions, please post again.
