ricasso

Postby Remdawg Killionaire » Mon May 20, 2013 8:40 am

I want to make a legit ricasso for a 5'-ish red sword. It's gonna be a beast on .375 solid fiberglass. I'm doing it up with a routed #4 box. Should I just use the #4 MC floor mats from Harbor&Freight, sandwhich it to the core(probably a little over 3 layers) and then cut out the design I want?

.375 is only a 3/8th core. Even double cored, I can't imagine that working for a 5' red; maybe a min red, if you attach the cores well.

I've got a 5' claymore that i made with a 10" ricasso. The way I did mine gives it the contour of a blade without being a legal striking edge. I built mine on 1/2" dual core fiberglass plastic welded together, 4# box from Harbor Freight, then used a drywall rasp to get the shape I wanted. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=265686063564284&l=99d5ad803e

Have you dealt much with plastic welding the cores? That claymore was my first experiment with it. It's held up really well so far but I haven't had a reason to dissect it to see how it's doing with longevity.

One .75 core is plenty sufficient. That red looks huge and bulky.
