I want to make a roman styled shield (scrutum?), what material are needed, I would think just rap a bunch of blue foam onto the front, back and sides of it. And how big do you think I should make it, I'm 6 foot 2 200 lbs

I can't really speak to how big you should make your shield, but keep in mind that the maximum height is equal to eighteen inches shorter than your total height. In my experience, max height and width shields are unwieldy, but use what works for you.

As far as construction, I know of three methods:

1. Use duct tape to bend a piece of foam into the shape you want, and then glue multiple layers to the face of that. Repeat until desired thickness, and then add edge layers until desired width. is obtained.

2. Cut a plastic blue barrel or equivalent in half and pad it with foam. If it's flimsy, add bracing on the inside.

3. Laminate plywood together, i.e.,

"It is a brave act of valour to contemn death; but where life is more terrible than death, it is then the truest valour to dare to live."
