Can a sword be to wide?

Postby Dach » Sat Jun 28, 2003 6:55 pm

My sword is blue and about six inches wide :axed: . People seem to look at it and find in funny others think it's cool. Er well I like it so I put up this poll to see what others then my realm thought of it.

After a point, hitting someone with the sword's edge will end up being equivalent to clubbing them with the flat of the sword. Also, thick edges slow the weapon way down and make it completely disproportionate to a real sword.

But also bear in mind that too thin of a sword will rotate on impact. I had a big problem with this with my latest pair, which I'm having a hard time getting back to "passing" state. Or at least one of them.

thats not the problem of sword size, thats a problem of proper glueing to the core.

I believe Poeir is refering to the tendancy of the weapon to rotate in your hand after you've struck someone, not the padding rotating around the core.

a sword can be extra thick and safe... look at some of the old bricks people dont fight with anymore.... or anyones 1st sword....

looks are the only issue.... i think bricks are great for newbs it makes them want to build their own gear to make better weapons to become better belegarthians in general

If it gets too wide, it becomes the Battle Paddle. Fighting with an oar looks silly at best.

I still want to build my board with a nail in it. I'll take a plastic core, like I have in my shield, cut it down small, put a good amount of padding on either side, then put half a nerf football at the end. It will be one of the most useless weapons ever.

And yes, I was referring to the tendency of swords with too thin a striking surface to rotate when they hit someone.

I think your sword is fine, Dach. I'm pretty sure that after all the times I've been killed by it, I should have a right to judge.

Poeir,
I had the same problem with my rope handled sword until I replace the grip with an oval wood grip-Nix

Nix....you do realize he asked that question over a year and a half ago...if he hasn't gotten the answer by now, I doubt he cares to.

Heh....silly Utah. ;)
