As an avid archer since 1982, I do know a bit about these things, when I started, they didn't have a bow light enough for me to draw, and we had to lower the poundage on it. You can easily and safely get a bow's draw weight changed about 5-7 pounds up or down by twisting a string, if you have 25 pounds to work on, a longer string will work, however, that will bring the string too close to the face of the bow (the side facing you is the face, the side away from you is the back) you will begin by stripping vanes/fletching/feathers off of your arrows, and you will also see damage being done to the face of the bow, reducing it's structural integrity to the point of failure, sure, it may take a long time, but it will happen, and I don't want to be the one shooting it when it does fail, I have had bows explode on me at full draw in tournaments while shooting 90 meters. it sucks.
On a side note, you can find bows that are perfectly fine, both in quality and draw weight for very reasonable prices (35 and up for new, who know the costs for them on EBay)
