I know that's what really happens, but those dudes are swinging live steel at each other and were I in that situation (yes I'm a *) I'd be a little rattled.

Check out their brochure http://www.vikingsofmiddleengland.co.uk/bookingus.html it has dot some killer picts in it. Looks like these guys have done some film work, and the makeup and goar they pull off is disturbingly realistic.

Oh . . . I've heard about these guys . . . they're pretty imfamous. They split from Regia (Maybe? It might have been the Vikes they split from . . . ) a while back over some philosophical differences that includes disputes about just how disturbing living history displays should be.

I've heard about some of the stuff they've done, and, well, a lot of it isn't very kid friendly. Especially when they didn't clean the guts up after a sacrifice . . . or the other one that some people had an issue with was the "master chastising the slave girl" skit, which was strictly adults only, but still rather revolting and literally acted out from all accounts.

In other words, they've got being a viking down a little bit too well for anyone else's liking.

Really? Wow. I found it funny how the brochure has the Page about how good their makeup and goar is just before their page about how you can have them come in to your school and give demonstrations and such!

The outfit is actually pretty neat looking, if you can get past the part where he's portraying a rat.

Girl at Kawaii Kon I met in passing. I thought her steampunk outfit was well done at the time, and the pictures I've run across since then support it. I'm pretty liberal on what I consider to be appropriate garb for Belegarth, so I thought a steampunk picture would fit on the thread nicely.

(I'm pro Belegarth pirates and steampunks, so long as their outfits are gun free.)

“Prince,” made entirely of baseball gloves and a dress form. Jungen captures the iconic image of an Indian chieftain with its form and shape, but draws you closer to the piece with the knowledge of its material. The simpleness of the items used redefines in a sense how you begin to see the world around you.

That's kinda cool. But did Hussars really use leopard print?

Not exactly, However, the Hussars were known for wearing pelts of large cats over their left shoulders as a sort of cape.

Their seconds would wear pelts of bear or wolf and would typically have their armor blackened.

I refuse to acknowledge that this thread is dead.. I'm getting some good ideas...

Anyway, after reading the entire thread, I realize my last response may be redundant...

Actually, Aslaug's right about the Hussars . . . the first unit of them was formed in Hungary as a response to the Ottoman invasion of the southern half of that country.

The winged Hussars that y'all have posted pictures of are Polish/Lithuanian, though.

I am curious about this... I have read that "Hussar" translates to something like "exiled Serbian," from the Serbian state of Ral. The first banner of Hussars were indeed Serbian, but I believe they were employed by the Hungarians and finally the Polish/Lithuanian/Sarmatians as a mercenary force.

The thread is not dead. It's just lying quietly until the next round of pictures. :P (No, for serious. People just get burned out. I have a collection of my favorite garb pictures; someday I will throw them up here.)

Edit: damnit. I can't get Yahoo group hosted pictures to show up here. That means I'll have to reload all the pictures into photobucket (or something) to get them up here. Oh well, it's almost summer time.
