Hats

Postby gram » Sun Dec 06, 2009 7:24 am

I wear a brown fedora when I fight. I like it but it is just to modern for me. I am wondering what would e a good alternative hat. That would still cover my face and neck. That would be more garb like.

Check out these pages (there are Next Page and Previous Page links at the bottom): Pages Linked Here.

There should be some good inspiration in there.

Jingasa/rice paddy hats are also good.

Along the line of hats, has anyone come across a sweet tutorial and/or tried making formed leather hats?

If you're not on it already, I'd highly recommend joining http://www.leatherworker.net. I've found it to be a great resource for anything leatherworking-related.

An easy piece of head gear to make is a sock cap (kind of hat Link from Zelda wears). I got one and typically wear it out on a regular basis. Very simple to make. Cut two right triangles about 2 and a 1/2 feet long and as wide as half the circumference of your head measurement (with an extra inch or two). Hem the bottom inch of the triangles up, then sew the two right triangles together for a simple sock cap. Choose from any color(s) you like for a simple and pretty nice piece of garb wear. The bottom hem could make the hat a bit smaller, hence why one adds the extra couple inches to the width of the triangles.

Too bad its not armor.

Throw some leather on the biznotch and have a brig sock cap.

I found a gnarly chunk of wool felt at a yard sale and just cut it and shaped it with hot water until it was vaguely hat-like. I'm pretty happy with the results as you can see.
