Book Binding

Postby Teej » Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:08 am

Anyone do it? I've been looking to get started for personal albums and such... store-bought journals and albums just don't seem personal enough.

I picked up the only book I could find on the subject, it's alright; it seems to make more mundane products that end up looking like they come off an assembly line... but does anyone have any good online references or other books I should consider? I'm thiniking tome-quality results...

I'm also down for any advice you could offer.

I got this book back when I was doing Amtgard:

A lot of interesting ideas in there...

My wife took a course in it while we were still at the University and has done some pretty sweet stuff. She has a couple of books on it, although most of what she learned was from the course. I'll see what she's got for you when I get home.

I took book making in college. I don't think we had a text that I can remeber but I'll look on my book shelf when I get home. If I have it I'll send it to you. I think if you want to make tome-esque books you want to go with what's known as multiple signature binding. Serch for that on the internet and see what you can find.

I found “Creating Handmade Books” by Golden. If you want it send me a PM with your address.

Checked with my wife and she said only the text from the instructor was really instructional (and it's not published), the other books she has are more historical and inspirational than instructive. So, not much help, sorry.

Is this at all what you're looking for?

I haven't tried this tutorial yet but I plan to eventually. Here's another one for home made paper.

I've done Japanese stab binding, which seems to be a lot easier than the first link but looks less like a tomb. If you're interested in that I can find something.
